What are the disadvantages of aluminum alloy forging?

Aluminum alloy forging is generally carried out between two flat dies or moulds without a die cavity. The main difference from die forging is the complexity of die geometry. The tool used is simple in shape, short in manufacturing cycle and low in cost. However, the labor intensity is high, the operation is difficult, the productivity is low, the quality of forgings is not high, and the machining allowance is large. Therefore, it is only applicable when there are no specific requirements for the performance of the parts and the number of pieces is small. For a considerable number of large aluminum forgings, aluminum alloy forging is mainly used as the blank making process.

In the aluminum alloy forging process, the blank can be forged into a stepped bar, or the blank can be made into a simple shape such as a round cake or a rectangle by upsetting or flattening. For example, the aluminum alloy support parts, after the casting ingot is opened, the blank can be forged, and then pre-forged, and then the finished support parts can be formed after two die forging on the die forging hydraulic press.
