Classification of free forgings

There are six categories of free forgings: cake, hollow, shaft, crankshaft, bending and complex shape forgings.

1. Pie block forgings

Pie block forgings refer to forgings whose lateral dimension is larger than height dimension, or the two are similar. Such as discs, impellers, gears, hammers, etc. The basic process used for forgings is upsetting, and the subsequent auxiliary processes and trimming processes are: chamfering, rounding, and leveling.

2. Hollow forgings

Hollow forgings refer to forgings with through holes in the center, such as various rings, ring gears, bearing rings and various cylinders, cylinders, hollow shafts, etc. The basic processes used are: upsetting, punching, reaming, or mandrel drawing. Subsequent auxiliary processes and trimming processes are: chamfering, rounding, straightening, etc.

3. Shaft forgings

Axle forgings refer to forgings whose axial dimensions are much larger than their cross-sectional dimensions, such as drive shafts, axles, rolls, columns, tie rods, connecting rods, etc. The basic process of forging shaft forgings is drawing, or upsetting-drawing, and the auxiliary process and trimming process are: chamfering, rounding

4. Crankshaft forgings

Crankshaft forgings refer to forgings with changes in cross-sectional shape and area along the axis, and the axis is bent in multiple directions. Such as various forms of crankshafts, the basic forging processes of crankshaft forgings are elongation, offset and torsion, and auxiliary processes and trimming processes are: segmented indentation, local chamfering, rounding, and straightening.

5. Bending forgings

Bending forgings refer to forgings with curved axes, generally one or more bends, the cross-sections can be equal or unequal, and the bending can be symmetrical or asymmetrical. , Auxiliary and trimming procedures are: segmented indentation and rounding, smoothing.

6. Complex shape forgings

Forgings with complex shapes, complex forgings composed of the characteristics of the above five types of forgings, such as valve body, fork rod, lifting ring body, cross shaft and other forgings, are combined according to the above forging processes, and the forging process is reasonably selected during forging.
